When Nature Leaves You Speechless

In this blog post, we share a travel report written by one of our children about the 2026 summer camp in Tinderet, a personal and poetic reflection on Kenya’s landscapes, experiences and special atmosphere.

As we descended the very steep slopes of Nandi Hills on 11th August 2026, I found myself holding my heart in my mouth. As we passed a skeleton’s billboard, the steepness of the road became even more noticeable. Thankfully, our driver was up to the task. He carefully navigated the many meanders as we made our way down the hills.A new view unfolded with every turn. I began to notice the quiet beauty hidden behind the slopes, the green hills, winding roads and distant landscapes. The scenery was far beyond my imagination. I could hardly believe my eyes and for a moment, it felt as though I was dreaming.

After an hour’s drive, we arrived at Rainbows polytechnic. Within the vicinity was a river that was winding through the valley. The sound of flowing water was soothing and very therapeutic and the chirping of birds added to the calmness of the place. It was a peaceful. A contrast to the busy routines we had left behind.

The next day we woke up to a very delicious breakfast. After that we gathered for the expounding of the camps theme that was drawn from Ephesians 2:10: ‘We are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works…’. This message reminded us that we had been created with a purpose and encouraged us to use our lives for good.

Then came Friday, our final day. We were all looking forward to having a very good time. We played and laughed our hearts out. We couldn’t imagine how tired we were a week earlier as we had been exhausted after spending two weeks harvesting maize. Now we were swimming at the waterfall. We opened our mouths and eyes with bewilderment. I was so used to Maai Mahiu where we rarely see any river, yet I was here mesmerized by the gashing water from the hills, very green forest and water turbines. This was beyond my imagination. Everywhere we looked, we were surrounded by green hills and the quiet beauty of nature.

We took uncountable photos, jumped into the river and had all sorts of poses for the cameraman. We collected a few bruises from thorns but that did not deter us from enjoying God’s creation. Eventually, we trodded back to the polytechnic. We were very tired but happy. It had been a simple yet memorable experience. An experience that reminded us of the beauty of God’s creation and left us grateful for the opportunity to see and enjoy it. Mission accomplished.
